Lie indicates the angle between a stick's/club's shaft and its blade (when the blade is in contact with the ground/surface). For golf clubs the value/angle is typically expressed in actual angle degrees, while hockey sticks can have a indicative number (4-7) that is not directly corresponding to the angle in degrees but rather describe the different blade lie options (where the higher number means a higher lie angle and more upright stick lie.)
